Ever since childhood, I dreamed of far away, exotic lands ruled by kings and queens who lived in gold drenched palaces in a fairy tale settings. My dreams were so vivid that I could visualize myself as a part of these landscapes. I could actually reach out and touch the lush green mountains and frolic in the crystal waters of a babbling brook.
It was a nice fresh morning when I sat down with Vera Fouriau, the owner of Vista Atenas Bed and Breakfast, for a nice cup of organic coffee and to chat about being a business owner in Costa Rica. I have known Vera for many years and was instantly attracted to her energy. She has a special aura that makes you feel at ease and you realize at once that there is substance within this vibrant woman.
Over the past few month I have received several e-mails from people concerned about the cost of living in Costa Rica. It seems there is some confusion about real estate prices and the cost of living. What everyone needs to be aware of is that in Costa Rica we do not have the same mortgage/real estate crisis as in the United States.
When most people think of Costa Rica, the first images that come to mind are sun drenched beaches, tropical rain forests, rugged mountain peaks, and adventure. Because of the untamed, "adventurous" side of Costa Rica, many people mistakenly think the country is more suited for younger visitors.
