At the ripe old age of 4, Frances "Kitten" Jones, started rescuing animals. From that tender age her destiny was set and a life long passion took root. "I was destined to do this (animal rescue) because it has always come naturally. It was what I was put here to do."
Like many people, when I think of a children’s home, the term “orphanage” comes to mind. Those old Hollywood movies have created a mental picture for me of a sad, dismal, sterile institution, where stern discipline reigns. My recent visit to Hogar de Vida para la Ninez in Atenas, changed that mental picture 180 degrees.
Like many neighborhoods throughout the United States in the late 1950’s and 1960’s, Ybor City, the “Latin Quarter” of Tampa, Florida, fell prey to the SUBURBANIZATION of America. Shortly after World War II, the masses started leaving the city centers across the country, and once vital communities like Ybor City with her spicy latin flavor, quickly became ghost towns.
Yoga and pura vida go hand in hand. Simply put, yoga is an ancient Hindu discipline that strives to unit the mind, body, and spirit. Literally translated, pura vida means “pure life”. To Costa Ricans, “pura vida” is more than words, it is a way of life.
